Want to be part of Newmarket Kite Symphony? Love being outdoors? Love Kites? Ever wanted to design or fly one? You can create a design to decorate the kites that will be part of Newmarket Carnival this year and even have a go at flying a kite. Bring your family and friends for a new experience this half-term – join us for two days of arty and sporty activities and have a go at something new and exciting.
- 31 May and 1 June, 11am – 4pm, Kite Design Drop In Sessions. Local artist Paula Wilson will be teaching kite design skills for all ages, children and adults welcome. Join with Paula in creating one of the 6 kites to be used for Newmarket Carnival procession. You can add your own element to the overall design. All materials will be provided and Paula will be on hand to show you techniques and think about design.
- 1 June, 11am – 4pm, Kite Design and Flying Drop In Sessions. Come join artists Marcelo Camus, Paula Wilson and Zack De Santos as they teach kite design and flying skills. There will be a makers table with materials to make your own kite, we will even play a guessing game for famous logos to give you some inspiration. At 2pm we will continue with a kite flying session on Long Hill – come along to take part or just to watch. Please note, dual line stunt kite is for ages 14 and over. Any minors must be accompanied by a guardian.
Kite design sessions will be taking place at the Mews at Palace House Newmarket, part of National Heritage Centre for Horseracing & Sporting Art, who are finalists of the Museum of the Year 2017 award. Explore your local museum and support it’s nomination for the Museum of the Year.
