Fenland Community Arts Workshop

Time/s: 10AM-3PM
Admission: FREE
Fenland Community Arts Workshop

“Inspiring Creativity – Improving Mental Health” is a FREE community arts workshop for creative artists interested in becoming creative tutors organised and ran by Cambridge Community Arts. This workshop is part of Fenland Community Arts, a pilot-project with aim to reduce social isolation, improve participants’ mental health and well-being; re-engage them in their community and with learning through arts participation.  It is an important part of the model that courses are run by local artists.

Who is it for?

We invite artists of all kinds: painters, photographers, actors, performers, film-makers, music producers etc. living and working in the March and Wisbech areas, to join us for a fun day.  We will introduce you to our approach of creative learning and you can show us your creative passion.  And if we get on hopefully together we can start a programme of creative learning in Fenland in 2018!

If you are passionate and confident about your art-form, have strong communication skills and care about improving people’s lives through art – you could be ideal for our team!  We run creative courses for adults at risk of social isolation, primarily due to experience of mental ill-health.   Ideally you will have experience of working with under-served groups and teaching, however, for the right people we can help develop these skills.

About Fenland Community Arts

Fenland Community Arts is a partnership project between Cambridge Community Arts, the Richmond Fellowship and 20:Twenty Productions.  The aim of the project is to develop and run courses for creative practitioners on how to work with mental health participants. Short Courses will be run in March and Wisbech from January 2018.  If the pilot is successful and funding is confirmed, these will be followed by a programme of year-long accredited courses starting in September 2018.

Since 2014 Cambridge Community Arts has worked with over 400 adults at risk of social exclusion, primarily due to experience of mental ill-health.  Working closely with health professionals and support agencies we target people who benefit from our work.  Courses take place in community settings, are run by practising artists and take place for 3 hours each week.

This project is supported by Market Place Development Commissions Fund. Market Place is part of the Creative People and Places arts engagement programme for Fenland and Forest Heath, initiated and funded by Arts Council England.
