Chatteris Stories Coming Alive
On Monday 19th September 2016 Market Place ran a story telling and ceramics workshop as part of the Chatteris in Myth and Memory project. Polly Howat started the session by telling the story of the Dead Moon, which inspired the theme of the ceramics workshop, where Kathryn Hearn taught the participants, how to make a series of scrying bowls (based on the story).
Seventeen keen local people all new to ceramics got stuck into the process and everyone made at least 3 items. Participants used black and coloured slip in their creations and were all extremely enthused with their efforts. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity, one lady has since joined a local ceramics group and is keen to progress her development further.
The project now moves onto new stories and art forms. The Great Fire of Chatteris will be told through screen printing – the workshops will be run by Ricki Outis, and the story of The Fen Tigers will be told through the wire weaving workshops led by Kaitlin Ferguson.
All the stories told through Chatteris Myth and Memory project alongside the ones researched and created by the Chatteris U3A writing group run by Polly Howat, will be published by Savage Publishing in the Summer of 2017.
