We are delighted to announce that Market Place has been awarded further funding from Arts Council England. As part of Creative People and Places programme we will continue our work in 2018-2021 across Fenland and Forest Heath to bring new audiences to the arts. Phase 2 of Market Place will start in October 2018 following on from Phase 1, which has been extended to celebrate the programme’s achievements.
Nathan Jones, Director of ADEC/BabylonARTS, lead Consortium Partner for Market Place, said,
This vote of confidence from our funders means a lot to us. Working to find new ways to reach and attract new audiences for the arts across Fenland and Forest Heath is an ambitious undertaking. We would like to thank our local partners, Creative Forum members, community and voluntary organizations, whose contribution to the programme is invaluable. Market Place will continue to listen to local voice and bring new opportunities for local people to take part in the arts.
Over the last 3 years we reached over 56,600 visitors across Fenland and Forest Heath. 89% of our audiences have said that they have been inspired by their Market Place experiences to attend or take part in other arts events. Kate Hall, Market Place Project Director, said,
“I am so proud of what Market Place team and the communities they have been working with have achieved. Working across seven towns with varied and distinct characters, with the help of our Creative Forum members, we have created many new exciting projects, and now there will be more to come. There have been opportunities for Whittlesey people to perform alongside Grand Union Orchestra, a Kite Ballet and Symphony in the skies of Newmarket, the Fenland Big Weekender taking a trip back to 1960s in March, explorations of the myths and legends of Chatteris, a creative Mildenhall Birthday Party, stories of Brandon’s past and imagined future, a digital arts project in Wisbech, and many more. We value the trust of local people, and are looking forward to working with you all in the next few years to come.
Market Place programme in 2018-2020 will build on the existing partnerships with the local authorities, artists and arts organizations, voluntary organizations and community groups to continue to bring opportunities for people across Fenland and Forest Heath to take part in and have access to the arts.
The Consortium of Partners led by ADEC/BabylonARTS will shape the programme based on the learning from Phase 1 to celebrate local places, support local artists and arts organisations in attracting new audiences, and develop arts projects with digital technologies in mind.
Market Place is part of the Creative People and Places programme, initiated and funded by Arts Council England through the National Lottery. Creative People and Places is about more people taking the lead in choosing, creating and taking part in art experiences in the places where they live. There are 21 independent projects, each located in an area where people have traditionally had fewer opportunities to get involved with the arts. Creative People and Places projects have reached over 1.2 million people, 90% of who do not regularly engage in the arts.
Market Place programme is run by a Consortium of Partners consisting of ADEC, 20TwentyProductions, Norfolk and Norwich Bridge Festival, and New Wolsey Theatre. We are grateful and proud to be supported by Forest Heath District Council, Fenland District Council, Suffolk County Council, and Cambridgeshire County Council.
