Opportunity for Traditional & Heritage Skills Crafts Person
Join Market Place at the St George’s Fayre in March on Sunday 28th April, where we're looking to offer crafts and creative artists with their own market stall for the day to sell their wares & also host either regular demonstrations of your skill throughout the day, or a creative activity that the public can try.
What we're looking for:
We’re enthusiastic about a wide variety of traditional crafts and creative arts - our main ambition is to encourage the public to be curious about them. So we are looking for artists who are;
enthusiastic about sharing their skills and activities in outdoor public spaces
willing to explore new ways of engaging with an audience with limited experience of and access to the arts and crafts
comfortable and enthusiastic about interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds in a market stall environment
The theme for the Fayre this year is ‘Vikings and Dragons’ though your activity does not have to be strictly aligned to this. We can discuss with you how best your work can contribute successfully on the day - for the public and for you
We’d love it if you can confidently share your passion for traditional and heritage skills with the public on the day and are happy to answer their questions & engage people with your stall.
You may wish to bring someone else along on the day too to help manage the stall while you are demonstrating or delivering the activity
You will need to have your own public liability insurance and a current DBS check. It is the stall holders responsibility to source everything they require for the day including materials for the demonstration/activity, and sundries for the market stall.
What we can offer:
A market stall for the full duration of the day, approximately 9:30am - 4pm (inc. set up/take down) will be provided. You can use this stall as you wish for the day, including selling your own work, promoting your activity and workshops.
Market Place will also make a contribution towards your travel costs & the materials required for the demonstration/activity. We expect that you will be there for the full duration of the fayre day, Sunday 28th April.
The fayre typically attracts an audience in excess of 8,000 people. Your activity should aim to appeal to all age groups. Much of the High Street and Town Square is pedestrianised for the day and is an opportunity to have your arts in a vibrant atmosphere alongside a variety of stalls offering goods & crafts, food etc plus theatre, music and dance.
If interested in being part of the day please write to the Creative Agents team by 12pm Monday 18th March.
An outline of your traditional skill/craft and an outline of the activity you plan to offer
An estimate of the materials you will require
