Brandon Tales and Trails Artists Open Call

Tales and Trails – Open Call

Market Place and the Brandon Creative Forum are seeking artist proposals for Tales and Trails – a community led festival taking place in Brandon Country Park on Saturday 21st September.

Market Place is Fenland and Forest Heath’s project for the Creative People and Places programme, initiated and funded by Arts Council England through the National Lottery. Creative People and Places is a national programme about more people taking the lead in choosing, creating and taking part in art experiences in the places where they live. There are 21 independent projects, each located in an area where people have traditionally had fewer opportunities to get involved with the arts. Creative People and Places projects have reached 1.45 million people, 91% of who do not regularly engage in the arts.  The work of the 21 projects is shared and profiled across the national Creative People and Places network.

Brandon Country Park is located in the very heart of Thetford Forest. Surrounded by acres of pure forest, there are miles of walking and nature trails, cycle routes, a lake, lawns, historic arboretum, walled garden, Visitor Centre and tearoom.

Festival background

The festival is devised and delivered by The Brandon Creative Forum - a team made up of volunteers, community members and representatives of Brandon groups and societies. This is the fourth in a series of events organised by the community team with the support of Market Place and the first year the team are creating an event outside of the town centre.

The event is an outdoor festival day celebrating the forest and community, with themes around a sense of place and the natural environment offering a unique shared community experience. The team are keen to work with artists who will respond to the festival in an original and inventive way.

The Tales and Trails open call aims to support up to 5 artists in responding to the Tales and Trails festival concept by either creating in situ artwork or siting relevant works to make interventions in the landscape.

Who are we looking for?

  • Artists, working in any artform, whose practice shows experience of, and a passion for themes related to the environment.

  • Artists who can respond to the festival concept and location in original and inventive ways.

  • Artists who love engaging audiences through their work and creating accessible art experiences.

  • Artists who understand, or are interested in working within the context of community led events.

The Brief

We are looking for local/regional artists.

We expect you to be with us for the duration of the festival day, Saturday 21st September, approximately 10.30am - 6pm (tbc).  Space can be made available for you to work on site before hand by arrangement to install the necessary preparations.
