Poetry Workshops – Brandon Fire & Flint – Suffolk Poetry Society

''

Fancy trying your hand at creative writing? Want to find out more about the history of your town? Come along to creative writing workshops in Brandon Library and get inspired by local stories and history.

The Suffolk Poetry Society are holding two themed workshops in Brandon Library on Monday, 11 September. Experts will be on hand to give you writing tips and tricks.

THE WORKSHOPS:

  • 10am – 12.45pm Tongues of Flame: Explore the historic event of the Great Fire of Brandon and the more recent history of the air bases, modern day dragons breathing fire.
  • 1.30pm -4pm Stories from the Flint Face: Memories of local industries such as flint-knapping, forestry, and hat-making.

These workshops are open to all, no experience necessary.

Participants will be encouraged to produce short prose or poems using fact sheets of local information, their own memories and stories, and stories gathered from interviews with local people in care homes and also with connections with the air bases.

Cost £7 per session or £12 for both including tea and cake. Register by emailing membership@suffolkpoetrysociety.org.uk by Friday 9 September.

Fire&Flint: past, present and future of the town of Brandon

This year on Saturday, 23 September, join us for a journey back to the past, through present, and then on to the future of our home town. Following the success of last years’ Ferry Tales we are inviting you to explore Brandon in a new light. Bring your family and friends to take part in a range of creative activities – enjoy crafts, get inspired by body art, have a go at writing your own poem, and be immersed in a series short performances throughout the town centre. We will finish the day with a lantern parade and a digital grand finale performance of “Fire&Flint” by Anomic Multimedia. Find out more here.
