Creative Producer Call Out – Apply by 4 July

''

We are looking for artists/creative producers to curate and develop a programme of workshops/arts activities inspired by the theme of Fire & Flint. You will be an artist/programmer who is excited to work collaboratively with a community to create a final parade/outside light projection show/performance which delivers an immersive collective experience that will live long in memory.

BACKGROUND

Fire & Flint is to be a celebration of Brandon’s history, community and landscape. It focuses on Brandon’s rich heritage as supplier and the source of flint as building material and famously the gun flint industry. On the weekend of 23/24 September 2017 the communities who live, work and pass through Brandon will be invited to take part in a variety of activities and final show in a themed event entitled – Fire & Flint.

Creative Forum in Brandon – a group made up of local creative individuals, societies and community groups – has shaped the project outline and roles. The selected creative producer and/or artists will be inspired to work closely with the Brandon community to develop a contemporary and vibrant interpretation of the chosen theme. You will be commissioned to produce a programme in line with Market Place vision, which will culminate in an afternoon/evening of entertainment and activity in the town centre of Brandon.

YOUR ROLE

You will be responsible for devising and producing:

  • a Saturday night family friendly entertainment – Light Mapping /Digital Projection Art show projected onto buildings within the Market Hill central area of Brandon

You will work as the Curator with the community partners to ensure that a coherent programme takes place that includes these elements:

  • family friendly and participatory arts activities (visual arts, crafts, performance) at Market Hill with a focus to explore skills and materials from the landscape and heritage of Brandon (e.g. flint, sand, soil, chalk,  fire/lanterns)
  • a Lantern Parade
  • a flash mob performance
  • heritage walks/storytelling  – leading and returning to Market Hill
  • workshops with community societies to create and/or translate artwork and photographic images for a contemporary digital projection show
  • poetry/performance/storytelling activities run in the shops of local retailers (involving the network of local regional artists)
  • stalls and drop in making/hands on workshops at and around Market Hill and the Brandon Country Park

PROJECT TIMELINE

  • August – September 2017  – community engagement and workshops getting ready to showcase the results at the main event
  • 23-24 September 2017 – Fire & Flint event

PROJECT BUDGET

The total project budget is up to £8,000 for the Light/Digital Projection Project and work as the Curator. This is inclusive of project outputs, materials, fees, travel expenses and VAT.

This work will be supported by Ali Atkins, our Creative Agent for Forest Heath Ali Aitkins.
